The housing programme implemented for low-income families without houses is the “A Place of One’s Own – A Beautiful Life” housing assistance programme. The National Housing Development Authority is carrying out this programme covering the entire island, while fulfilling the responsibility of constructing the highest number of houses in 2026.In line with this programme, a newly constructed house in the Alahara Attanakadawala area was recently handed over to its beneficiary under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, T.B. Sarath.Under this ministry, it is expected to construct nearly 30,000 houses in the year 2026. At present, foundation stone laying ceremonies and house openings are already being carried out. Accordingly, the year 2026 marks the year in which the highest number of houses will be constructed in the country.
