World Habitat Day was celebrated today (3)
World Habitat Day was celebrated today (3). The first Monday of October every year has been declared as World Habitat Day since 1986. Accordingly, the 36th World Habitat Day was celebrated today.
The theme of this year's World Habitat Day is “"Let's not make a difference - let's not leave anyone behind".
Accordingly, with the blessing of the Honorable President Ranil Wickramasinghe, the World Habitat Day was celebrated today (3) at the Araliyagaha Mandir, under the leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and with the honorable participation of other ministers.
Presenting his policy statement in Parliament, the Honorable President mentioned that the granting of title deeds to flat house owners will be expedited. We started this activity in conjunction with World Habitat Day this year.
The National Housing Development Authority, Urban Development Authority and Urban Settlement Development Authority under our Ministry are working on these housing projects. These three institutions have built 85,600 houses in the past. Only 47,619 of them have been given title deeds.
Another 37,981 are to be given title deeds. Accordingly, on today's World Habitat Day, title deeds were given to 650 apartment owners under the chairmanship of Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena at Temple Tress.
Accordingly, I have already instructed the officers to complete the program of providing these title deeds within the next one year. We are implementing this program because the government believes that everyone should have the right to a house.
In conjunction with the celebration of the World Settlement Day, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing and the Urban Settlements Development Authority jointly organized for the people of the urban settlements, the awarding of prizes to the winners of the children's drawing, short film and gardening contests was also done under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
“It is difficult to develop a country without long-term national policies to achieve sustainable development. In order to realize the dream of housing, which is considered as a basic human need, we must break away from traditional thinking. Living in a country rich in natural resources, we should think deeply about the failure to meet even one basic need for 36 years. In the congratulatory message sent by the Honorable President Ranil Wickramasinghe, it was stated that if we want to build a society where we can live happily with our loved ones, everyone should work together for the sake of the country.
The Honorable President's congratulatory message was presented to the House by the Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing, Mr. Tenuka Vidanagamage.
Speaking here, Hon'ble Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena mentioned that we should dedicate ourselves to creating an atmosphere where the safety of human lives can be improved, and the future of children can be built in a home with hope. In order to increase the quantities that can be used for food production across the country, centers should be created in urban areas to buy those products.
