Mr. Rajeev Suriyarachchi, Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority, said that the housing projects that had to be temporarily stopped in the past due to the Covid epidemic and the economic crisis are expected to start soon.The chairman stated that the authority has identified many new projects to start in the future, and is ready to negotiate with investors from many countries.
Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority Mr. Rajeev Suriyaarachchi stated this while participating in the commencement of work on the Colombo, Kirulapana, Mihidupura housing project consisting of 560 houses today (22). Indian CDC Chairman of Industrial Infas Y.S.R. Mr. Venkatarao also joined the occasion.On the advice of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, the National Housing Development Authority and CDC located in Hyderabad, India. Industrial Infas is jointly implementing this project for the middle-class people.
The total amount invested in this project is 51 million dollars. The construction work is to be completed in 36 months. This housing project consists of two towers of 24 floors each. 420 houses of 650 square feet and 140 houses of 850 square feet will be built there.
The chairman further commented, "When we start a project, the main problem is not being able to finish it on time." There are various reasons for that. Many projects had to be stopped due to the recent Covid epidemic and economic crisis.As a country, we must move forward today with a positive mindset. National Housing Development Authority as an institution has prepared many plans for that. We are working to implement them quickly. We hope to complete this project soon with the support of all parties.
The Sri Lanka State Engineering Corporation is providing construction consultancy for this project which is being built on a 2.39-acre land owned by the National Housing Development Authority located in Kirulapana area.The National Housing Development Authority was established in 1979 to meet the housing needs of the poor people who have no shelter. At present, this authority is implementing many programs such as building apartment projects, implementing loan programs, and providing housing assistance to fulfill the housing needs of the homeless people.
