The World Habitat Day was on the second day of October. The national ceremony was held at the second stage of Battaramulla Setshiripaya under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the invitation of Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister of Urban Development and Housing.

  The United Nations Settlement Commission declared this day internationally in 1985 and the first settlement celebration was held in 1986. Since then, the National Housing Development Authority, a pioneering organization that has been conducting this celebration, has been conducting drawings and essays for school children as usual this year. The tournament was successfully held and cash prizes, certificates and trophies were presented to the winners at this event in the presence of the Hon'ble Prime Minister.

  Acting Minister Mr. Tenuka Widanagamage, Honorable Member of Parliament Mr. Yadamini Gunawardena, Chairman of National Housing Development Authority Mr. Rajeev Suriyaarachchi and the chairpersons of all the institutions of the Ministry, members of the board of directors and top management participated in this event.
