World Habitat Day is today (07). The World Habitat Day celebration held on that occasion was held today (07) under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Ministry of Rural and Urban Development, Housing, and Construction, Mr. A.M.P.M.B. Athapattu, at the Second Phase Ministry Auditorium, Battaramulla, Setsiripaya.
World Habitat Day is observed on the first Monday of October every year, and this year the theme is "A city filled with youthful energy.". This year marks the 38th settlement year.
The Ministry of Rural and Urban Development, Housing, and Construction is Sri Lanka's representative agency of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), which implements World Habitat Day worldwide.
The National Housing Development Authority, Urban Settlement Development Authority, Urban Development Authority, and Condominium Management Authority under the Ministry of Rural and Urban Development, Housing, and Construction organized many programs during World Settlement Day.
In this celebration, the message of the Secretary General of the United Nations Human Settlements Program was presented by Miss Harshani Halangoda, Sri Lanka Program Manager of the United Nations Human Settlements Program.
Here, certificates and trophies were awarded to the winners of children's painting competitions, children's dance competitions, children's short film competitions, inter-settlement, and softball cricket competitions organized by the Urban Settlement Development Authority.
