The Division of Engineering Services of National Housing Development Authority systematically carries out planning, designing and constructing of the housing development projects including all the infrastructure facilities.

Thereby, the division provides its all engineering services in order to achieve the mission and objectives of the Authority. Accordingly, the activities regarding the feasibility reports, layout plans, field inspection, planning and obtaining the approval of Local Government Institutions are carried out by the division.

In the same manner, direct construction of the housing projects, as well as investment projects are supervised by the division until its completion. During the project period it gives instructions, solving the arising issues at time to time and reviewing the progress perioditically. The standard of the completed housing projects as agreed is also certified by the division. 

The Division of Engineering Services of the National Housing Development Authority also extends its assistance in delivering technical advice and approving the estimates of the rural housing development projects implemented by the district offices of the NHDA. Further, the division obtains the required instructions and assistance for the projects from the external institutions engaged in the same field when it is necessary by properly coordinating with them.
Further, the division is engaged in maintenance and compulsory repairing activities of the housing complexes of the National Housing Development Authority as well as maintenance of civil and electrical work of the district offices of NHDA, circuit bungalows, Pradeepa halls and other related new construction.

A separate Unit working for twenty four hours of all the days of week, kept opened to attend urgent repairs and maintenance work, the water pumping station and electrical supply of housing complexes.

Duties & Responsibilities

      
  • Planning Designing and construction of Housing Projects with infrastructure facilities
  • Preparation of projects reports and Technical specifications relevant to Proposed Housing Developments Projects.
  • Preparation of Building plans, Estimates and Bidding documents following the Government Procurements projects.
  • Approvals from regulatory bodies.
  • Project management, consultancy and coordination of public private partnership projects.
  • Renovations of Housing schemes under NHDA/ New constructions of District offices, Circuit Bungalows, Pradeepa Hall.
  • New constructions/ Civil/ Electrical/ Maintenance of District Offices, Circuit Bungalows, Pradeepa Halls/ Urgent repairs/ Maintenance works of Pump Houses/Pumps of Housing schemes within the Colombo Metropolitan area.
  • Development of Infrastructures and common amenities of low income settlements within the Colombo Metropolitan area.
  • Other Services
 *   Supporting to the special programs such as WORLD HABITAT DAY, conducted by the NHDA.
*   Give helping hand to promote “Low Cost Housing Technology” in the society.
*   Technical guidance for the activities carried out by the District Offices of NHDA.
*   Technical support to the public whenever necessary.
