The Urban Development and Housing Ministry says that the process of providing free solar panels to 25,000 low-income households will be started after receiving cabinet approval. Urban Development and Housing Minister Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga says that it is expected to add 500 megawatts of renewable energy to the national grid. This project will be implemented in two phases first. Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says that under the first phase, 10,000 houses will be supplied with electricity through solar panels. Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says that under the second phase, 15000 houses will be supplied with electricity from solar panels. The minister further states that an amount of 2.5 million rupees will be allocated for one house.
